Monarch employee receives Joslin Award David Hoyer, of Syracuse received the William B. Joslin Outstanding Performance Award from the New York State Industries for the Disabled during a ceremony this afternoon at Arc of Onondaga.David, who has a developmental disability, has been employed through Arc of Onondaga since 1984. For the past 11 years, David has worked on a NYSID “Preferred Source” contract with the New York State Thruway. He keeps the buildings at exits 34 through 40 clean and sanitary, sweeps and mops the interiors and shovels the sidewalks during the winter. David’s colleagues remark about his exceptional attendance and note that he always comes to work with a cheerful attitude. As a contributing member of the community, David has also volunteered with Arc Race, for the past five years. “We’re very, very proud of David. He’s a hard worker,” said Melanie Loftus, his sister. The William B. Joslin Outstanding Performance Award is NYSID’s annual people-centered awards program which recognizes exceptional vocational and personal success on Preferred Source jobs. The award pays tribute to William B. Joslin’s dedication to creating employment opportunities for people with developmental disabilities. Monarch Enterprises provides over $200,000 in cleaning services to Onondaga County and State buildings under the NYSID program. Monarch Enterprises, the vocational division of Arc of Onondaga, provides employment opportunities training and competitive placement to over 450 individuals with developmental disabilities throughout Onondaga County. Since 1951, Arc of Onondaga has supported people with developmental disabilities to achieve their fullest potential. Arc of Onondaga has grown to become the leading non-profit provider of services to individuals with developmental disabilities in the county, serving over 3,000 individuals and their families daily.
