Arc Hosts Grantsmanship Training

Participants in the Grantsmanship training discuss a proposalThirty professionals from a wide variety of fields and agencies wrapped up a week-long training at Arc of Onondaga.  They were participating in The Grantsmanship Center (TGCI) training, the world's oldest and largest fund development training organization.  Participants learned a wide variety of skills, and honed their "Grantsmanship" under the guidance of instructor Judy Gooch.

"We are delighted to have had the opportunity to host such a timely, impactful conference. The Human Services world, in general, seems to always struggle to find enough money to provide the supports that so many people need," said Tina Cornue-Chapman, Staff Development Coordinator at Arc of Onondaga. "It was, and will continue to be, extremely important for all of us to band together to learn new, innovative ways to access a broader range of funding, as well as to share ideas, knowledge, and energy with our colleagues. Every single person who attended this conference found it relevant and useful. I am looking forward to future opportunities to host similar events."

Since 1972, TGCI has trained more than 100,000 staff members of nonprofit and government agencies around the world. Designed for both novice and advanced grantseekers, the Grantsmanship Training Program is a hands-on learning experience that covers all aspects of researching grants, writing grant proposals, and negotiating with funding sources. During the intensive five-day workshop, participants learned TGCI's groundbreaking proposal writing format, the most widely used such format in the world. They also learned how to locate new funding sources for their organizations and worked in teams to prepare actual proposals for funding. Upon completion of the workshop, graduates receive a full year of free follow-up services through the TGCI Membership Program.

Arc of Onondaga hosted the training at its administrative offices at 600 South Wilbur Avenue in Syracuse as a service to the community.  Arc of Onondaga is the largest provider of services for individuals with developmental disabilities in the county.  Arc of Onondaga, a non-profit chapter of NYSARC, Inc., serves over 3,000 individuals and their families at more than local 36 sites.  It is the mission of Arc of Onondaga to assist individuals with developmental disabilities to achieve their fullest potential.
