Parkside Children’s Center
Parkside Children’s Center, a division of Arc of Onondaga, has educated children since 1952. Serving children ages 3 to 5 years, the emphasis is on preparing them for further education by determining each child’s individual developmental and educational needs.
Parkside is staffed by qualified and experienced New York State certified teachers with Masters degrees. These staff members create an enriched learning environment for children attending Parkside.
The Parkside Philosophy of Education
Through carefully planned curriculum, Parkside creates an environment which encourages the development of confidence and a positive self-concept in each child. Inquiring minds are stimulated to ensure intellectual development, while indoor and outdoor play increases physical coordination of both large and small muscles.
Children at Parkside are given a number of experiences that help their educational and personal growth. Through encouragement and the experience of success, students develop a positive attitude of self. The activities at Parkside invite play and enrich the mind at the same time, allowing children room to experiment and explore.
There are plenty of opportunities for self-expression and for each student at Parkside to develop his or her personality in a safe, loving, and accepting environment. By the time they enter kindergarten, Parkside students are ready to embrace a love of lifelong learning and are prepared to take the next steps down their educational path.
Pre-School with Built-in Day Care
Parkside is also unique with regards to its wrap-around day care program. Children enrolled in Parkside’s pre-school program can also participate in wrap-around day care offered on-site. Parents can drop-off and pick-up their children around their schedule, anytime between 7:30am and 5:30pm.
Parkside’s convenient location in the Valley section of Syracuse means easy access for parents to bring and pick up their children. Registrations are accepted on an on-going basis and the program currently has openings.
Universal Pre-K
Parkside also offers a Universal Pre-K program, providing pre kindergarten instruction for all 4-year-olds, who reside in the Syracuse City School District, regardless of family income.
An Ideal Learning Environment
In addition to the staff of experience, state certified teachers, Parkside Children’s Center also has an on-site registered nurse. The Parkside classrooms are painted in bright and vibrant colors, representing the diversity of the student body. The outdoors playground at Parkside, also colorful, has a number of safe structures for children to explore.

Parkside’s philosophy is that each child is a unique individual with special gifts and growth patterns. Each child’s needs for emotional, social, physical and cognitive growth are met by providing appropriate developmental materials for both indoor and outdoor activities.
